Like all purebreds, these dogs are prone to a number of hereditary disorders. It’s no longer possible to exaggerate the breed's physical characteristics; these dogs are already highly dependent on their owners. The appearance of these dogs is so exaggerated, that it influences their health. For instance, a short muzzle causes breathing difficulties and makes a dog sensitive to extreme temperatures. A large head of a puppy makes labor very difficult, often involving cesarean section. If the appearance of the breed would be changed to improve its health, these dogs will likely lose much of their popularity.

The height of an adult dog is about 12-14 inches and the weight is about 50-55 lbs. These dogs are said to be affectionate, docile, and reliable. They need regular brushing with a rough cloth and a few walks a day. Make sure you do not over feed the dog, as the breed is prone to obesity and doesn't like vigorous exercise much. Powdering the fold and wrinkles, and under his tail during hot weather is recommended. They are prone to heat stroke in hot weather.
